Nokubonga Thomas is a self-motivated Founder of Medical ER Training and Consulting

She completed an undergraduate diploma in 2005 followed by a B-Tech degree, in Emergency Medical Care and Rescue, at the Durban University of Technology in 2006. In 2014 she completed a Contemporary Business Management course through Nelson Mandela University’s business school.

As a qualified South African  Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP),  Nokubonga is an advocate for rural EMS and has an immense passion for all things involving emergency medicine training and clinical governance.

Danielle Robertson

Office Manager

Danielle has been our amazing office manager and course administrator for 2 years, ensuring that courses run smoothly and that our training venue is prepared to provide candidates with a warm welcome.

When Danielle isn’t working she enjoys Gardening, watching series/movies, relaxing at the beach, enjoying family time and playing Mah Jong!

Abongile Xeketwana

NALS & ACLS Honorary Instructor

With a strong passion for emergency care and training, Abongile is proud to be part of MERT’s extended educator team in an honorary capacity. Abongile completed his undergraduate Diploma at CPUT and his Post Graduate Diploma in Emergency Care at UCT. Drawing from real-world experience in prehospital setting and a deep interest in life-saving education, Abongile contributes to healthcare development through training.

Outside of work, Abongile enjoys reading and stays active in the healthcare education space whenever time and schedule allow.

Dr Esihle Madyibi

Dr Esihle Madyibi is an Emergency Medicine instructer at MERT. She is dedicated to delivering high quality healthcare for all. A medical graduate from the University of Cape Town, Dr Madyibi is passionate about ensuring equitable access to healthcare. Outside of medicine, she enjoys Jazz music and exploring new destinations. Let’s work together to shape evidence based training for ALL healthcare professionals!

Dr Garrick Barber

BLS-HCP, PALS & ACLS Instructor

Dr. Garrick Barber is a highly experienced emergency medical practitioner with a diverse background in remote and acute care. His career has taken him across West Africa, the Middle East, and onboard international cruise ships, where he has delivered high-quality emergency medicine in some of the most challenging environments.

With extensive experience in both public and private emergency departments, Dr. Garrick Barber brings a sharp clinical eye and a calm, confident presence to every situation. He is also passionate about medical training and education, known for his patient, thoughtful approach that blends clinical precision with a touch of gentleness—much like his fondness for cats, which he playfully channels into his teaching style to create a warm, supportive learning environment.
