Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS-HCP)

The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) classroom course is designed to provide the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner to a wide variety of healthcare professionals.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

The American Heart Association’s Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course is designed for healthcare providers who either directly or indirectly participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospitals. Through the ACLS course, providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

ACLS emphasizes:

  • the importance of basic life support to patient survival;
  • the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions;
  • and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where participants will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader.

Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The goal of the PALS course is to aid the paediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Skills taught include:

  • the recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest;
  • the systematic approach to paediatric assessment;
  • effective respiratory management;
  • defibrillation and synchronized cardio-version;
  • intra-osseous access and fluid bolus administration;
  • and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

Renewal: R3 230, 00 [for candidates who own the 2015 manual]

Paediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilisation (PEARS)

The Paediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilisation (PEARS) course was designed for healthcare providers who see critically ill children. It is intended for emergency unit staff who do not work with paediatric patients on a day-to-day basis. PEARS prepares participants to assess, categorize, decide and act early to stabilise the child. The main focus of PEARS is prevention, and specifically the assessment, recognition and stabilisation of paediatric victims at risk of severe cardiopulmonary distress.

International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)

International Trauma Life Support Course enhances knowledge and hands-on skills which improve emergency management of trauma patients. The ITLS framework is a global standard that enables participants to master the latest techniques through a systematic approach for rapid assessment, appropriate intervention and identification of immediate life-threatening injuries.

Price: R3 550, 00 per delegate [minimum of six (6) delegates maximum of eight (8).]

Renewal: R2 875, 00 [for candidates who own the 8th edition manual]

Duration: 2 Days

Prerequisites: Current HPCSA/SANC registration

Heartsaver Family & Friends CPR Course

The American Heart Association (AHA) Family & Friends CPR course is presented at a basic level. In order to prepare and benefit most from the course, candidates should at least receive their manuals a week prior to the course.

The course teaches the following:

  • Adult, child and infant CPR
  • Adult, child and infant relief of choking

On completion, each candidate receives a certificate of course completion.

Price: R500, 00 per person (minimum of 4 people required).

Duration: The course runs for ±3 hours to complete.

Other benefits: 2500 Discovery Vitality points.

Heartsaver First Aid Course, CPR/AED Course

This course is aimed at candidates who view themselves as first responders to emergency situations or sport events. This includes but is not limited to the first responder in the workplace. In order to prepare and benefit most from the course, candidates should at least receive their manuals two (2) weeks prior to the course.

The course focuses on the following:

  • Injury emergencies
  • Environmental emergencies
  • Medical emergencies

There is an official assessment.

On successful completion, each delegate will receive an AHA certificate, which will be valid for 2 years.

Price: R1 500, 00 per person (minimum of 6 people required).

Duration: The course runs ±5 hours to complete.

Other Benefits: 2500 Discovery Vitality Points.

First Aid Level 1

The first aid level one course covers basic adult anatomy and physiology, and basic first aid including fractures, basic bleeding control. The program also includes choking, CPR and AED usage. This course complies with the minimum requirements for the Health and Safety.

This course is accredited by HWSETA and complies with Health and Safety requirements for higher risk industrial and work based environments.

Price: R700, 00 per person (minimum of 6 people required).
R 570, 00 per person (group of twelve [12] delegates or more).

Duration: 2 Days.

Prerequisites: Grade 10 certificate.

Other Benefits: 2500 Discovery Vitality points.

This course is accredited by HWSETA and complies with Health and Safety requirements for higher risk industrial and work based environments.

On successful completion of the course the delegate will receive a certificate valid for three (3) years

Price: R1234, 62 per person (minimum of 6 people required).

Duration: 3 Days.

Prerequisites: Grade 10 certificate and a valid Level 1 First Aid certificate.

This course is accredited by HWSETA and complies with Health and Safety requirements for higher risk industrial and work based environments.

On successful completion of the course the delegate will receive a certificate valid for three (3) years

Price: R1 710, 00 per person (minimum of 6 people required).

Duration:Five (5) days [45 hours].

Prerequisites: Grade 10 certificate and a valid Level 2 First Aid certificate.
